Made for dogs who won't sit still
Zappsy started with a border collie called Miso and a very bright Perth summer. Squinting the whole way down Cottesloe beach, ears flat, head turned away from the water. Sunglasses for dogs sounded like a joke until we watched her stop squinting and start looking around again.
Most pet eyewear is either a costume that falls off in ten seconds, or a specialist medical product priced like one. We wanted the middle: something that genuinely stays on a moving dog, blocks real UV, and doesn't cost more than a decent pair of human sunglasses.
What we actually care about
- Straps that hold. Two adjustment points — over the head and under the chin — because one strap is why every other pair ends up in the sand.
- Four real sizes. From 10cm to 17cm across the brow. A pug and a labrador are not the same dog.
- Honest UV protection. Tinted, anti-UV lenses. Useful on snow, water, sand and long drives — the places glare actually bites.
- Waterproof. Dogs swim. This should not be a problem.
